Python survives life-threatening injury in rare surgery at Tirunelveli Veterinary College

In a remarkable feat, veterinarians at the Veterinary College and Research Institute (VCRI) in Tirunelveli successfully treated a four-year-old python that had suffered a severe lacerated wound after being strangulated by a fishing net. The six-foot-long snake, weighing around 4 kg, was brought for treatment by Moolakal forest ranger Balasubramanian with the assistance of the Karu Animal Rescue Unit Trust, Veeravanallur.

The python, found with extensive injuries and skin peeled off in several places, was in a critical condition. However, thanks to the expertise of the VCRI team, the snake underwent a successful surgery and is expected to recover. This rare case highlights the importance of wildlife conservation and the dedicated efforts of animal rescue teams and veterinarians working together to save injured animals.
