Nivin Pauly reunites with ‘Premam’ director Alphonse Puthren after 11 years

Kochi: Malayalam star Nivin Pauly’s milestone 50th film has been officially titled Vijayam, reuniting him with director Alphonse Puthren for the first time since the 2015 blockbuster Premam. The makers announced the title on June 27, 2026, with a quirky four-minute teaser.

The title was unveiled at a grand event at Padma Theatre in Ernakulam, where fans gathered in large numbers. Instead of a conventional title reveal, the team released a short-film style teaser. It opens with Puthren waiting by the roadside for a ride, photographing ants and insects — a nod to his signature close-up visual style seen in Premam.

Nivin Pauly then makes a dramatic entry on a sports bike, dressed in a biker’s outfit. He tells the director he has been searching for him for a long time because they have “work to do,” setting up the title reveal Vijayam.

Vijayam marks the third collaboration between Nivin and Puthren after Neram (2013) and Premam (2015). It’s also Puthren’s return to direction after Gold. The film is set against a racing backdrop, with the teaser hinting that motorcycle racing will form the core of the story.

Apart from directing, Alphonse Puthren has written and will edit the project, continuing his hands-on approach. Vijayam is jointly produced by Tonson Tony, Sunil Ramady and Nivin Pauly under his home banner, Pauly Jr Pictures. Music is by Steve Kottoor with lyrics by Shabareesh Varma, and cinematography by Shinoz.

The makers confirmed Vijayam is being planned as a multilingual release in Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, Kannada, and Malayalam, aiming for a pan-India audience. Additional details on the supporting cast and release date are yet to be announced.

Nivin, who debuted in 2010, called it a full-circle moment. “Every great ride begins with a little faith..and someone willing to take the first turn with you. Back with the friend who started this journey with me,” he wrote on X while sharing the first look poster.

The reunion comes as Premam, their 2015 coming-of-age hit, was re-released in theatres earlier this year to mark 10 years, after grossing ₹73 crore and running over 300 days in Tamil Nadu.
