Nellore Class VIII student turns Rubik’s Cubes into art for social cause
Nellore: For Class VIII student Anumula Nomesh, Rubik’s Cubes are much more than colourful puzzles. With remarkable speed, concentration and creativity, the young student has transformed the cubes into a unique medium for creating portraits of prominent personalities, paying tribute to Indian soldiers and spreading awareness about important social issues.
Nomesh, son of Pradeep and Swathi, who reside in Bank Colony under Nellore rural limits, developed an interest in Rubik’s Cubes at a very young age and sharpened his skills through persistent practice.
One of his most notable achievements came during his school’s Children’s Day celebrations, when he created a portrait of President Droupadi Murmu using 30 Rubik’s Cubes in five minutes and 24 seconds blindfolded.
Earlier, Nomesh had created a portrait of Prime Minister Narendra Modi using 16 Rubik’s Cubes, completing the arrangement in 13 minutes and eight seconds. His performance received appreciation from district officials, teachers and members of the public.
Nomesh has also used his cube-solving skills to express his respect for the country’s armed forces. He created a portrait of Indian soldiers with the national flag, completing the arrangement in 21 minutes and 43 seconds.
Beyond portraits, the young student has given his talent a social dimension. He has created Rubik’s Cube representations highlighting themes including International Women’s Day, women’s safety, helmet awareness, Swachh Bharat, prevention of drunk driving, traffic rules, Pulse Polio and eradication of child labour.”Creating portraits using multiple cubes requires planning, visualisation, memory and precision. Nomesh’s achievements at a young age reflect sustained practice and dedication,” officials said.
By combining speed, memory, creativity and social responsibility, the young enthusiast is showing that even a simple puzzle can become a powerful medium for expression and awareness.
