Mira Nair announces ‘Amri’ biopic on Amrita Sher-Gil; Anjali Sivaraman to lead
Mumbai: Filmmaker Mira Nair on Tuesday announced her next film Amri, a biopic on groundbreaking Hungarian-Indian painter Amrita Sher-Gil.
Anjali Sivaraman will play Sher-Gil in the lead role. The cast also includes Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Jaideep Ahlawat. The makers released a first look of the film alongside the announcement.
Sher-Gil is regarded as a pioneer of modern Indian art, known for her bold imagery and unconventional life that challenged the establishment of her time.
For Nair, the project has been a long-held ambition. The director is known for acclaimed works such as Salaam Bombay!, Monsoon Wedding, The Namesake, and A Suitable Boy.
