Mammootty receives honorary D.Litt from MG University
Kottayam: Actor Mammootty was conferred an honorary Doctor of Letters by Mahatma Gandhi University on Monday for his contribution to cinema and culture.
Nagaswaram maestro Thiruvizha Jayashankar also received a D.Litt, while vascular surgeon Dr N Radhakrishnan was awarded a Doctor of Science at the same ceremony.
Kerala Governor and University Chancellor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar presented the degrees. He said the three honourees do not keep their achievements to themselves but share them with society.
Kerala Higher Education Minister and University Pro-Chancellor Roji M. John attended the event in Kottayam.
Shortly after accepting the doctorate, Mammootty posted a message online expressing gratitude. “Humbled to have received the Honorary D.Litt. from Mahatma Gandhi University today, presented by the Honourable Governor of Kerala. My gratitude to each and every one of you who stood by my side throughout this memorable journey,” the actor wrote.
The honorary degree recognizes Mammootty’s five-decade career in Malayalam cinema and his influence on Indian arts and public life.
