Malkajgiri police plans AI, drone-based system for traffic and crime monitoring

Hyderabad: The newly formed Malkajgiri commissionerate plans to build a technology-driven policing architecture using drones, artificial intelligence, predictive analytics and integrated surveillance systems to transform traffic management, crime detection and public safety response.

Under the proposed “plug-and-play” model, drones will hover above congested arterial roads, scanning traffic movement and feeding live images to a command centre. Algorithms at the centre will map vehicle density, detect bottlenecks and compare faces against suspect databases within seconds.

Across the city, officers will track repeat offenders and vulnerable hotspots remotely through live analytics instead of relying solely on physical patrols.

Officials said the model is aimed at shifting policing from reactive to predictive by using real-time data. The integrated systems will link drone feeds, AI-based video analytics, and existing surveillance networks to speed up decision-making on traffic flow and crime response.

The Malkajgiri commissionerate, recently carved out as a new police jurisdiction, is positioning the tech-led approach as its core framework for urban policing.
