London’s march for unity draws thousands; A peaceful protest against far-right extremism

Tens of thousands of people gathered in central London on Saturday for a peaceful protest against far-right extremism, described as one of the largest demonstrations of its kind in UK history. The march, organised by the Together Alliance, a coalition of over 500 organisations, saw participation from high-profile figures like Sir Lenny Henry, Paloma Faith, and Steve Coogan.

The demonstration was a response to last September’s far-right ‘Unite the Kingdom’ march, which drew crowds of over 100,000. Organisers claimed over half a million people attended, while police estimated around 50,000. Protesters marched from Park Lane to Trafalgar Square, calling for unity and an end to hatred and division.

The event featured performances by Self Esteem, Jessie Ware, and UB40, as well as speeches from politicians like Green Party leader Zack Polanski and former Labour MP Diane Abbott. Amnesty International UK described the march as a “historic demonstration” for dignity, compassion, and human rights.
