Komal Theatres’ ‘Endru Thaniyum’ revisits India’s journey to independence

Komal Theatres’ Endru Thaniyum offered a theatrical relook at the episodes that eventually led to India’s Independence.

In an attempt to traverse this vast historical journey within a span of two hours, the production brought together familiar milestones and lesser-known episodes to offer a visual account of India’s journey to freedom.

The story begins with William Hawkins landing at Surat in 1608 aboard the ship Hector, carrying a letter from King James I of England seeking permission to establish a trading port in Surat.

This initial move paved the way for the East India Company’s entry into India, and eventually, expanding its control over the country.

The Company’s journey from being traders to rulers, the varied revolts during the freedom struggle movement and the political developments that culminated in India’s Independence formed the storyline of Endru Thaniyum.
