“Irumudi will be among the best Telugu films in recent years,” says Priya Bhavani Shankar

Hyderabad: Actor Priya Bhavani Shankar is betting big on her upcoming Telugu film Irumudi, calling it one of the standout releases of recent times. “It will be among the best Telugu films in recent years,” Priya said, exuding confidence about the film directed by Shiva Nirvana and starring Ravi Teja. Irumudi is set to release in theatres on August 21.

For Priya, who has made a mark in both Tamil and Telugu cinema, script selection has always been about substance over screen time. “My effort has always been to choose films where my character is significant to the story, irrespective of the screentime. I’ve consciously avoided decorative characters,” she said.

“Some films may have worked, others may not have, but my effort has been constant.”The actor is a familiar face in Telugu cinema with roles in Kalyanam Kamaneeyam, Zebra, and the web series Dhootha, even as Tamil cinema remains her mainstay.

With Irumudi, Priya hopes to add another performance-driven role to her filmography, ahead of the film’s theatrical release later this week.
