India’s automobile wholesales hit record 2.83 crore units in FY26

The Indian automobile industry has achieved a remarkable milestone, with wholesales reaching a record 2,82,65,519 units in FY26, marking a 10.4% year-on-year growth. According to the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), all segments, including passenger vehicles, commercial vehicles, two-wheelers, and three-wheelers, have recorded their highest-ever sales in a fiscal year.

The strong demand is attributed to positive market sentiments, GST 2.0 reforms, and lower interest rates. SIAM President Shailesh Chandra stated that the industry is optimistic about the growth prospects, driven by the government’s focus on infrastructure development and increasing demand for personal mobility.

However, Chandra cautioned about uncertainties arising from the West Asia conflict, which could impact production, commodity prices, and overall demand. Despite these challenges, the industry is expected to maintain its growth momentum, driven by increasing demand from rural areas and the government’s push for electric vehicles.

India’s vehicle exports also saw a significant surge, reaching 66,47,685 units, up 24% YoY. The industry’s growth is expected to have a positive impact on the country’s economy, creating new opportunities for employment and investment.
