Indian teacher Rouble Nagi bags Global Teacher Prize 2026 for innovative approach to education
Indian educator Rouble Nagi has made history as the first Indian woman to win the prestigious Global Teacher Prize 2026. She was awarded the $1 million prize at the World Governments Summit in Dubai, recognizing her innovative approach to education in marginalized communities.
Rouble, an artist and educator, has transformed neglected walls into interactive educational murals, teaching literacy, numeracy, science, and social responsibility. Her “Living Walls of Learning” initiative has created over 800 learning centers across 100 underserved communities and villages in India, impacting over a million children.
Through her Rouble Nagi Art Foundation, she has also repaired and restored over 1.5 lakh homes, providing safe spaces for children to learn and grow. Rouble plans to use the prize money to establish a Skilling Institute, offering free vocational and digital literacy training to empower marginalized youth.
“Rouble Nagi represents the very best of what teaching can be – courage, creativity, compassion, and an unwavering belief in every child’s potential,” said Sunny Varkey, Founder of the Global Teacher Prize.
