‘Guuranda’ brings aboriginal tales to life in Chennai

A mesmerizing blend of music, dance, and shadow puppetry, ‘Guuranda’ captivated audiences at Tower Park, Anna Nagar, Chennai. The event, a first-of-its-kind production, narrated the stories of the Narungga people, an Aboriginal tribe from Southern Australia.

Produced by Shreya Nagarajan Singh, ‘Guuranda’ features a 20-piece choir, dancers, and shadow puppets, set against the serene backdrop of a water body. The performance aimed to reconnect the Narungga people with their land and culture.”‘Guuranda’ tells the tale of a people, their land, and their journey in a colonial world,” said Singh.

“We wanted to host this event amidst nature, with birds, bats, trees, and turtles as our audience.”The show, part of the KM Music Conservatory’s initiative, debuted outside Australia on March 21. It showcased the resilience and traditions of the Narungga people, leaving a lasting impact on the Chennai audience.
