Google launches selfie video sign-in to recover locked accounts

Google on Thursday rolled out a new selfie video sign-in feature, giving users another way to log in or recover accounts if they forget passwords or lose access to trusted devices.

The Alphabet-owned company said users can set up the option by recording a short video of themselves performing guided head movements. The video captures multiple angles of the face.

Google will securely save the recording and use it later to verify live selfie videos uploaded during sign-in attempts.

The feature is designed to add a biometric alternative for account recovery, similar to face unlock but tailored specifically for verifying identity when standard login methods fail.

The company did not say when the feature will be available to all users, but confirmed testing has begun.
