From school stage to city soundscapes: Chennai band Thisram set for Bengaluru show
Bengaluru: The sweltering Chennai heat of 2019 didn’t faze five high-schoolers ready to give their all at an inter-school cultural competition. Despite the jitters, they set the stage ablaze. That day, Thisram was born.
“Right from the start, we knew we hadn’t heard anyone who sounded like us,” recalls vocalist Sivaranjini Chandramouli, one of the original five.
Today, Thisram is a seven-member band. They’re set to bring their blend of Carnatic melodies and vibrant originals to Bengaluru with Tastefully Yours, an event Sivaranjini describes as a journey of the band’s evolution.
Thisram’s sound puts Carnatic music at its core, layered with originals inspired by city culture and fresh takes on classical compositions. Their sets carry hints of Latin-Salsa, jazz, and more, creating a genre-bending mix that has built them a growing fan base.
From a school competition in Chennai to stages across cities, the band’s story is one of experimentation and staying rooted. Bengaluru audiences can expect that mix when Tastefully Yours takes the stage.
