‘Drishyam 3’ soars at box office: Mohanlal thriller crosses Rs 76 cr worldwide in 2 days
Kochi: Drishyam 3 has emerged as a massive box office success for Mohanlal, continuing the franchise’s legacy with a record-breaking start. On its second day in theatres, the Jeethu Joseph directorial earned Rs 11.05 crore net in India and Rs 20 crore gross overseas, taking its worldwide total to Rs 76.18 crore, according to industry tracker Sacnilk.
This follows an impressive Rs 45 crore opening day haul globally. The film ran 4,886 shows across India on Day 2 with an occupancy rate of 44.5 per cent. Its opening day, which coincided with Mohanlal’s birthday, had pulled in Rs 15.85 crore net in India across 5,500 shows. With momentum building, Drishyam 3 is now inching closer to surpassing the lifetime collection of the 2015 Hindi version of Drishyam, which had earned Rs 110 crore.
The Drishyam franchise began in 2013 with Mohanlal in the lead. Despite a slow start, the original thriller went on to earn Rs 62 crore in its lifetime run. Its gripping storyline inspired remakes in Kannada, Telugu, Tamil, and Hindi, and was later adapted into Sinhalese and Chinese versions.
Trade analysts say Drishyam 3 is benefiting from strong word of mouth and franchise loyalty, with weekend collections expected to push it past the Rs 100 crore mark quickly.
