‘DC’ hits screens: Anirudh’s music and action take center stage

Chennai: ‘DC’, directed by Arun Matheswaran, released on August 7, 2026. The 142-minute Tamil film stars Lokesh Kanagaraj in his lead acting debut as gangster Devadas, opposite Wamiqa Gabbi as Chandra, a sex worker brutalized since childhood.

The story follows Das and Chandra as they team up for a bloody fight against corrupt cops after a violent heist in Gobichettipalayam. The film reimagines the classic Devadas with a modern, violent twist.

The highlights are the slick action sequences and Anirudh Ravichander’s score. Tracks like ‘Ain’t Nobody’ and ‘Bum Baa Diga Diga’ drive the film’s momentum. Cinematography by Mukesh G also stands out.

However, the film is criticized for a weak emotional core. Despite strong performances, especially by Wamiqa, the relationship between Das and Chandra lacks depth, and the violence soon feels repetitive.
