Conservation wins for Africa’s giraffes and rhinos

Africa: Endangered Nubian giraffes have a new home in Uganda. Twelve were moved 106km from Murchison Falls National Park to Ajai Wildlife Reserve to protect them from habitat pressure as oil drilling ramps up in the region, which holds about 40% of Uganda’s oil.

In South Africa, six orphaned white rhinos rescued in KwaZulu-Natal nine years ago after losing mothers to poachers have all now given birth in the wild. Wildlife officials say it proves rescued rhinos can breed naturally and help rebuild populations.

In East Africa, Maasai warriors are also leading new efforts to help people and lions coexist.
