Cancer Institute hosts state-level meet on Tobacco Control

Chennai: The Cancer Institute (WIA) organised a State-level consultation on Article 5.3 of the World Health Organization Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (WHO FCTC) this week.

Held ahead of World No Tobacco Day on May 31, the consultation focused on strengthening tobacco control measures through multi-sectoral collaboration.

Participants discussed ways to safeguard public health policies from tobacco industry interference. Health officials, policymakers, and civil society groups attended the meeting.

Article 5.3 of the WHO FCTC calls on governments to protect tobacco control policies from commercial and other vested interests of the tobacco industry. The Cancer Institute said the session aimed to build awareness and align State-level action with global commitments.
