Albino buffalo nicknamed ‘Donald Trump’ spared from Eid sacrifice after going viral

Narayanganj: A rare albino buffalo nicknamed “Donald Trump” for its blond tuft of hair has been spared from ritual sacrifice ahead of Eid al-Adha after drawing crowds and government attention in Bangladesh.

The 1,500-pound animal was set to be sacrificed this week for the Islamic holiday. But authorities intervened after photos and videos of the buffalo spread widely on social media.“It is just a symbolic name, and we gave it out of affection and fondness,” said farmer Ziauddin Mridha, who bought the buffalo months ago. “It was my younger brother who gave it this name because of its hair. It went viral, and many people came to see it.”

Crowds have been visiting Mridha’s farm in Narayanganj, near Dhaka, for a glimpse of the buffalo. Mridha described the animal as unusually gentle, requiring regular baths and frequent feeding.

Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed ordered that the buffalo be spared, according to Reuters. The buyer will be refunded and the animal will be moved to the national zoo in Dhaka.
