The world is scheduled to witness a lunar eclipse on August 28, 2026, with almost 96% coverage of the Moon’s surface giving the celestial body a deep red hue.
A lunar eclipse occurs when Earth passes directly between the Sun and the Moon, casting its shadow across the lunar surface.
The eclipse will be fully visible across North and South America, with about one billion people having full access to view the event. Partial views will extend to parts of Europe, Africa and West Asia, with almost 44% of the world’s population having the chance to watch it, according to the update on August 23, 2026.
