Andhra engineer turns shrimp farmer, inspires women in aquaculture

Vijayawada: Krishna Sri Kotikalapudi, an Electrical Engineering graduate from Akividu in West Godavari, has emerged as a successful shrimp farming entrepreneur in an industry known for its unpredictability.

She personally manages 105 acres out of a family partnership spanning nearly 800 acres. From pond preparation and water quality to harvesting and marketing, she oversees every stage of cultivation.“Entering aquaculture as a woman was difficult, but I turned the struggles into strength,” she said. Her husband Kotikalapudi Madan Kumar has supported her throughout.

Krishna Sri uses a scientific approach, focusing on water management, feed, and shrimp health. She says rising feed costs and low shrimp prices have squeezed farmer profits, but adapting with technical knowledge is key.

Beyond farming, she educates others online. With 14,000 social media followers, she shares practical tips on disease prevention, sampling, and market trends.

In a male-dominated sector, she is breaking stereotypes and showing how technical skills and persistence can create success in aquaculture.
