Reliance’s Strand Life Sciences gets Indian patent for blood-based early cancer detection test
Bengaluru: Strand Life Sciences, the Bengaluru-based subsidiary of Reliance Industries Limited, has been granted an Indian patent for its integrated platform to detect cancer early using a blood test.
The company announced on Tuesday that the patent covers its cell-free DNA (cfDNA) analysis platform. The technology is designed to enable early cancer detection from just a blood sample.
According to an official communique, the platform combines high-quality DNA sequencing, strict quality control, biologically informed methylation and fragmentomic feature extraction, and machine learning. Together, these elements allow for both cancer detection and tissue-of-origin prediction from a single blood draw, without the need for invasive biopsies.
Strand said the patented system aims to make early cancer screening more accessible by using cfDNA circulating in the blood.
The development comes as researchers worldwide push for liquid biopsy tools that can catch cancers earlier, when treatment is most effective.
