Music unlocks a new world for Kerala girl with Down Syndrome
Malappuram: For years, words didn’t come easy to 10-year-old Advika P. Born with 75% intellectual disability linked to Down syndrome, the Class V student from Chemravattom struggled to speak or communicate.
Her family tried music therapy, hoping it might help her speech. What happened next surprised everyone.
Within a year, Advika was not just responding better — she was reaching for the keyboard. Notes turned into tunes, and silence gave way to melody. Practice became play, and play became purpose.
Today, the GUP School, Chemravattom student is being recognized by record organisations as a keyboard player. Her fingers move across the keys with a focus that tells its own story — one of patience, small wins, and a family that refused to give up.
For Advika, music wasn’t just therapy. It was a door.
