Paresh Maity brings art to Noida International Airport; ‘add soul’ to transit hub

Jewar: Airports usually move people from one place to another. Padma Shri awardee Paresh Maity wants them to move people emotionally too.

Two years ago, Maity was commissioned for a project at the upcoming Noida International Airport in Jewar, Uttar Pradesh. The painter is using his oil and acrylic work to turn the hi-tech building into a welcoming space. He says art can “add soul” to generic transit hubs.

Maity sees airports as unique venues. They introduce the cultural richness of a region to travelers who may never visit local museums or galleries. His large-scale canvases aim to engage passengers during layovers and arrivals.

Best known for his skill with oil and acrylic, Maity has started installing pieces that reflect his signature style. The project is part of a wider push to integrate local art and heritage into India’s new infrastructure.

The Noida International Airport is still under construction. When it opens, passengers will meet Maity’s work before they meet the city.
