1.3-km mural on India’s maritime history to adorn Kochi Naval Base wall

Kochi: The stretch from Vathuruthy Railway Gate to Venduruthy Bridge on Willingdon Island is set to transform into a vibrant open-air history museum.

A massive mural depicting India’s maritime history is taking shape along 1.3 kilometers of the Kochi Naval Base wall, running from the Udaan Gate to the Vembanad Gate.

The project is a collaboration between the Better Kochi Response Group, the Regional Sports Centre, and the Indian Navy. It aims to portray India’s sealinks from ancient times to the modern day.

Local artists, businesses, and government organizations are involved in the initiative. Organizers say the project banks on Kochi’s strong appetite for public art to create a meaningful work that conveys India’s maritime legacy to commuters and visitors.
