New Delhi: India’s seafood industry received a major win this week as the European Union reinstated the country on its list of approved aquaculture exporters from September 2026.
The decision follows India’s successful compliance with the EU’s strict restrictions on antimicrobial use in food-producing animals, a key benchmark for market access.
The reinstatement reverses the EU’s October 2024 move to omit India from the list, which had sparked uncertainty for exporters. The EU remains one of the largest and most lucrative destinations for Indian shrimp, fish, and other aquaculture products.
Industry bodies welcomed the decision, calling it a testament to India’s upgraded testing, traceability, and farm-management practices. The approval safeguards thousands of jobs and secures a critical revenue stream for coastal farmers and processors.
