Theatrix stage crafters’ ‘Mazhaiyil Or Iravu’ explores mystery without murder
Chennai: Theatrix Stage Crafters’ latest play Mazhaiyil Or Iravu, meaning One Rainy Night, opened to audiences under the direction of S. Anand.
The title suggests a thriller, but the story unfolds differently. While there is no murder or violent crime, the plot involves sleuthing by the lead pair.
On a rainy night, Anupama, played by Malini Devi, and Abhinav, played by Girish Venkat, are forced to take shelter in the house of author Agni, portrayed by S. Anand. Anupama discovers her host once wrote under the pseudonym Agni and is a fan of his feminist stories.
Agni stopped writing years ago after his wife Akila eloped with her lover and died. Shattered by the betrayal and loss, he abandoned his craft. Anupama tries to rekindle his creativity. As she does, a strange unease sets in. Agni’s words appear harmless but carry hints of amorous intent beneath the surface.
