‘Ghost in the Shell’ reboot sets premiere date, drops gritty first trailer
Tokyo: The upcoming reboot of The Ghost in the Shell has officially locked a premiere date, with studio Science SARU releasing the anime’s first full trailer alongside a new key visual featuring Public Security Section 9.
Based on Masamune Shirow’s influential cyberpunk manga, the new adaptation appears to lean closer to the source material than earlier screen versions, including 1995’s Ghost in the Shell and Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex.
The trailer showcases a grittier visual style and a more manga-accurate portrayal of Major Motoko Kusanagi and her elite cybernetic task force. Fans were given glimpses of neon-lit cityscapes, tactical action, and the philosophical themes that defined Shirow’s original work.
Science SARU, known for Devilman Crybaby and Keep Your Hands Off Eizouken!, is helming the project. The new key visual highlights the full Section 9 team, signaling an ensemble focus.
A specific release date was confirmed with the trailer drop, though global streaming details have not yet been announced.
