Apple invests ₹100 crore in India clean energy push

New Delhi: Apple on Thursday announced a series of clean energy and environmental initiatives in India, including a ₹100 crore investment to expand renewable energy infrastructure and cut plastic pollution.

The Cupertino-based company said it will partner with renewable energy developer CleanMax to support new solar and wind capacity across the country. The initial investment will back more than 150 megawatts of new renewable energy capacity, enough to power about 150,000 Indian households each year. Apple added that there is opportunity to expand the program in coming years.

The move is part of Apple’s broader commitment to decarbonize its supply chain and operations globally. The company has a 2030 goal to be carbon neutral across its entire business, manufacturing supply chain, and product life cycle.

Alongside the CleanMax partnership, Apple said it will launch programs to reduce plastic pollution and foster green entrepreneurship in India. Details on those initiatives will be shared in the coming months.

India is a key manufacturing hub for Apple, which makes iPhones and other devices in the country through partners. Expanding clean energy here helps the company meet both corporate climate targets and India’s renewable energy goals.

“Investing in clean energy is good for the planet and good for business,” an Apple spokesperson said. “Our work with CleanMax will add new renewable energy to the grid and support communities across India.”
