Thrissur artist turns fungus-stained walls into murals where art blurs with nature
Thrissur: On a once off-white wall marked by patches of black fungus, portraits of children now gaze gently at passing travelers. Their eyes, in shades of brown, carry kind smiles. Tangled creepers with long leaves and scattered blooms weave through the paintings, mimicking the children’s free-flowing hair.
Here, art blurs into nature as the surrounding flora seeps into the artist’s vision. Spread across Thrissur and Palakkad, these murals by Thrissur-based artist Nishad VA have transformed long-ignored walls into vibrant canvases. Over the past few months, the works have drawn wide attention on social media.
Nishad’s pieces incorporate existing stains, cracks, and wild growth into the compositions, turning urban decay into portraits of hope. Local residents say the once-overlooked spaces now stop people in their tracks.
