Remastered version of Tamil classic ‘Moondram Pirai’ to premiere on OTT

A digitally remastered version of the 1982 classic Moondram Pirai will premiere on Prime Video on May 1, its producers announced Thursday.

Directed by the late Balu Mahendra and starring Kamal Haasan and Sridevi, the romance drama is widely regarded as one of the greatest Tamil films of all time. The film was a major box office hit and played a key role in catapulting its director-cinematographer and lead actors to fame.

G Thyagarajan’s Sathya Jyothi Films, the banner that originally bankrolled the film, confirmed the OTT release on X on April 30. The remaster brings renewed attention to Balu Mahendra’s landmark work, introducing the acclaimed drama to new audiences more than four decades after its theatrical release.
