New Delhi: The Delhi government has relaxed wheat procurement norms to support farmers facing crop damage from adverse weather, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said Wednesday.
Under the revised rules, procurement agencies will now accept wheat with up to 70% loss of lustre. The move comes after rain and other weather events affected grain quality in the region. To maintain overall quality standards, the government specified that broken and slightly broken grains together must not exceed 6% of the procured stock.
The relaxation aims to ensure farmers can sell weather-impacted wheat without facing rejection at mandis, while still balancing quality requirements for the public distribution system. The new norms were announced on April 29, 2026, and took effect immediately for the ongoing procurement season.
