96-Year-old gardener and her 150-pound ‘great-granddog’ become internet’s favorite duo

At 96, Barbara Collins still runs her garden — with a little help from Chewy, a 150-pound Newfoundland she calls her great-granddog.

Standing with her cane, Collins points to a patch of soil. “And dig,” she commands. Chewy lowers his head and paws the earth exactly where she pointed. Collins plants a small bunch of pink flowers, pats the soil into place, and moves on to the next spot.

They repeat the routine until the backyard is full of marigolds, Superbells, pansies, and dianthus. When the work is done, Collins strokes the dog’s ears. “You did a good job, Chewy,” she says to her granddaughter’s dog.

The teamwork between the senior and the gentle giant has charmed viewers online, turning a quiet afternoon of gardening into a viral moment about trust, companionship, and flowers planted side by side.
