Teacher’s pub karaoke of ‘Nessun Dorma’ goes viral, draws Britain’s Got Talent interest
Liverpool: A teacher’s impromptu karaoke performance of the opera classic Nessun Dorma in a Liverpool pub has gone viral, racking up over 3 million views and catching the attention of Britain’s Got Talent producers.
Benjamin Gillham, 37, was out celebrating his friend Laura Beever’s birthday on April 7th. After drinks, the pair headed to Cooper’s Town House pub for karaoke. They each performed a song before Beever signed Gillham up for Puccini’s aria “without him knowing.”
Captured on phone video, Gillham delivered the performance to an audience of 12. The rendition moved some to tears, including a woman in white seated next to him, and earned a standing ovation.
The pub later posted the video on social media, where it has since been viewed more than 3 million times. Thousands of comments praised his voice.
Gillham, from the Wirral Peninsula just outside Liverpool, said producers from BBC One’s The Voice UK and ITV’s Britain’s Got Talent have since contacted him about auditioning.
