Experts explore animal and fish breeding rights to boost India’s economy at WBNUJS meet
Kolkata: Academicians, scientists, legal experts, and policymakers gathered at the West Bengal National University of Juridical Sciences on Friday to highlight new opportunities in the field of animal and fish breeders’ rights.
The discussion, titled “Animal and Fish Breeders’ Rights: An Imperative in India’s Economy,” brought together judges, researchers, and officials to explore how well-defined breeding rights can support innovation, protect local breeds, and strengthen rural livelihoods.
Participants emphasized the need for informed research and clear legal frameworks around ownership of breeding rights. The dialogue opened doors for collaboration between science and law to benefit farmers, breeders, and the broader economy.
By spotlighting this little-known area, the event marked a positive step toward recognizing breeders’ contributions and creating sustainable pathways for growth in India’s agriculture and aquaculture sectors.
