Meta partners with Broadcom to develop custom AI chips through 2029

Meta has signed an expanded agreement with chip designer Broadcom to produce several generations of custom artificial intelligence processors, strengthening its push to scale computing infrastructure for AI across its platforms.

Announced Tuesday, the deal runs through 2029 and includes an initial commitment of more than one gigawatt of computing capacity, enough to power roughly 750,000 U.S. homes on average. The partnership also covers Broadcom’s Ethernet networking technology, which will be used to connect Meta’s rapidly growing clusters of AI computers.

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg said the collaboration helps “build out the massive computing foundation we need to deliver personal superintelligence to billions of people.” The custom chips are expected to support AI features across Meta’s family of apps, from content recommendations to new generative tools.

The move reflects Meta’s continued investment in AI hardware as it works to meet rising demand for advanced models and real-time services. By combining Broadcom’s chip design and networking expertise with its own data center expansion, Meta aims to boost performance and efficiency for future AI workloads.
