New burrowing reed snake species discovered in Meghalaya
A new species of burrowing reed snake, Calamaria garoensis, has been discovered in Meghalaya’s West Garo Hills district. Previously identified as Calamaria pavimentata, it is now recognized as a distinct species.
The discovery, published in Taprobanea, highlights the rich biodiversity of Meghalaya’s forests. Found in the Ora Gitok area, known for its lush vegetation, this species adds to the region’s ecological significance.
