Urban sketchers Visakhapatnam: Bringing art and community together

A group of passionate artists in Visakhapatnam is reviving the city’s vibrant streets, one sketch at a time. Urban Sketchers Visakhapatnam, founded by Preethi Sangita in March 2023, has been hosting weekly on-location sketching sessions, attracting art enthusiasts and curious onlookers alike.

The group’s initiative is built on the principles of the global Urban Sketchers manifesto, focusing on drawing from observation, documenting surroundings, and sharing work online. With no registration process or fee, the sketch meets are open to all, fostering a sense of community among participants.

From Beach Road to Poorna Market, and from Simhachalam to Kailasigiri, the group has explored various landmarks across Vizag, showcasing the city’s beauty through different artistic styles and mediums. With attendance ranging from 20 to 30 participants each week, the highest turnout was a remarkable 64 participants during a themed sketching session at Hawa Mahal.
