Indian High Commissioner awarded Freedom of the City of London
Indian High Commissioner to the UK, Vikram Doraiswami, was awarded the Freedom of the City of London on April 8, 2026, for his outstanding contribution to strengthening India-UK relations. This prestigious honor, dating back to the 13th century, recognizes significant achievements in public life.
The ceremony, held at London’s Guildhall, was led by Lady Mayor Dame Susan Langley. Doraiswami’s efforts, including concluding the India-UK Free Trade Agreement and launching the India-UK Infrastructure Financing Bridge, were highlighted as key contributions.
“This is a singular and profound honor,” Doraiswami said, accepting the award with humility and pride. He emphasized the potential for mutually beneficial partnerships between India and the City of London. Doraiswami’s tenure has seen significant progress in India-UK relations. He is now India’s ambassador to China.
