Women in Gobarghusi village turn waste into wealth through plastic recycling
In a remarkable initiative, women from Gobarghusi village, located 60 kilometers from Jamshedpur, are transforming discarded plastics and old clothes into valuable products, earning a sustainable income and contributing to environmental conservation.
The women collect plastic waste and old clothes from approximately ten nearby villages, crafting them into useful items like flower vases, baskets, plates, caps, and doormats. These handmade products are sold in major markets in Delhi and Mumbai, priced between Rs 50 and Rs 600, generating a monthly income of Rs 5,000 to Rs 7,000 for the women.
This recycling movement, which began a year ago, aims to mitigate environmental damage and provide a sustainable livelihood. The initiative aligns with India’s environmental goals, promoting waste management and reducing plastic pollution.
The women’s efforts have not only improved their economic situation but also contributed to a cleaner environment. Their story serves as an inspiration, showcasing the potential of community-led initiatives in driving positive change.
