Visakhapatnam: The Sabala Bhojanalu festival, launched on April 1 at a goshala in Krishnapuram, is drawing large crowds with its celebration of indigenous food traditions and seed diversity. The event features traditional displays, demonstrations of cold-pressed oil extraction, and stalls showcasing rare seed varieties.
Visitors are being served meals prepared using natural and cow-based farming ingredients, highlighting the nutritional value of indigenous grains. The food is cooked in brass vessels using traditional methods, with dishes made from traditional rice varieties. The festival has seen a surge in popularity, with the daily capacity increasing from 2,000 to around 5,000 people, and higher turnout expected over the weekend.
An exhibition of indigenous cattle breeds is also on display, emphasizing their role in sustainable agriculture. Organised by SAVE under Vijayaram’s leadership, the event aims to reconnect people with traditional food systems and biodiversity. The festival is a testament to the power of community-driven initiatives in promoting eco-friendly practices and preserving India’s rich cultural heritage.
