GST collections rise 14.7% to Rs 2.04 lakh crore in September

New Delhi: India’s gross Goods and Services Tax (GST) collections crossed the Rs 2 lakh crore mark for the third consecutive month in September, rising 14.7% year-on-year to Rs 2.04 lakh crore, according to provisional government data released on Thursday.

Gross collections stood at Rs 2,03,521 crore in September 2026, compared with Rs 1,77,365 crore in the same month last year.

The growth was driven sharply by import-linked revenue. GST from imports surged 25.9% to Rs 65,525 crore, while domestic GST revenue rose 10.1% to Rs 1.38 lakh crore.

After accounting for refunds, net GST revenue rose 18.1% to Rs 1.77 lakh crore from Rs 1.50 lakh crore a year earlier. Total refunds fell 3% to Rs 27,001 crore, with domestic refunds down 13.5% and export refunds through ICEGATE up 10.2%.

For the first half of FY27 (April-September), gross GST collections increased 11.6% to Rs 12.46 lakh crore, while net revenue rose 10.4% to Rs 10.66 lakh crore.

Maharashtra remained the top contributor with Rs 29,986 crore, up 15% year-on-year, followed by Karnataka and Gujarat.
