Cabinet clears Rs 1.86 lakh crore green energy corridor to evacuate 135 GW renewable power
New Delhi: The Union Cabinet on Wednesday approved the third phase of the Green Energy Corridor (GEC) with an outlay of Rs 1.86 lakh crore.
The initiative aims to strengthen India’s Intra-State Transmission System (InSTS) to enable evacuation of up to 135 gigawatt (GW) of renewable energy across States and Union Territories by fiscal year 2032-33.
The scheme also seeks to address curtailment — a situation when grid operators are forced to limit power output from renewable sources to maintain grid stability.
The project will be key to integrating large-scale solar and wind capacity into the national grid and ensuring seamless transmission from renewable-rich states to demand centres.
