Canvas to launch ‘Project Maya’, India’s first original short-form anime, in October
India is set to get its first original short-form anime series. Canvas, the microdrama and vertical entertainment app, will premiere Project Maya in the first week of October, the platform announced on Tuesday.
The Hindi series has been built entirely by Indian creators — a team of 30 animators from across the country working over 12 months. It is produced by Otaku Bharat Studios.
According to the makers, the series contrasts what independence meant to Indians nearly a century ago with what it means to Gen Z today.
“Through Indian characters, landscapes and cultural references, the show examines how the meaning of freedom has evolved across generations,” the official release said.
