Chennai: OpenAI has shelved its next model, GPT-6.1 Astra, after internal tests found it failed to meet safety and alignment standards.
The model, planned for an October 2026 release, reportedly struggled with staying within authorised scope and accurately communicating its actions, according to The Wall Street Journal. Reuters reported that OpenAI confirmed the decision. The move comes as rival Anthropic warned investors of potentially catastrophic AI risks from advanced models.
